Cayden Cailean

Cayden Cailean (pronounced KAY-den KAY-lee-en) is one of the Ascended: those who achieved godhood by passing the Test of the Starstone. Because of the way in which he passed the Test, he is also known as the "Lucky Drunk", "Drunken Hero", or the "Accidental God".

Dogma: The faithful of Cayden Cailean hold their patron's two loves, freedom and drink, as the pillars of his church. Free to seek their own means of venerating the Drunken Hero, it's not uncommon for followers to take part in events involving one or both of these. The creation and drinking of spirits is often considered a noble and holy, though not formal, pastime. Likewise, the act of fighting for freedom, both that of others and of oneself, is highly respected and honored.

Worshippers: The majority of those who follow Cayden Cailean are simple people who seek simple pleasures in life. Those who brew and sell alcoholic drink often revere the Drunken Hero, as do those who partake of such fare. Adventurers seeking to promote goodness often find a sense of kinship with the deity, their goals of freedom and adventure mirroring those of the god of bravery.

  • Priests of Cayden may utter a soothing word once per day. The soothing word has two functions. First, it may remove fear or other harmful emotion-affecting magic from all within 20 feet of the priest. The priest has a 50% chance per individual affected to remove the magic, plus 2% per level. Second, the soothing word may add +2 to initial reactions with others. The use of the soothing word is obvious and visible, so if the individuals it is being used on are suspicious of magic or are paranoid, it may be interpreted as an attack.
  • They are extremely good at unarmed combat due to their experience in brawls. They gain bonuses when engaged in wrestling or punching type of damage. When they make an unarmed attack against an armed opponent, normal initiative is rolled for both combatants, and the usual bonus that the armed opponent would receive in attacking them under the Weapons in Defense rule is reduced to a +1 attack and damage bonus. (The Weapons in Defense rule is found in the Weapons in Non-Lethal Combat subsection of the Attacking Without Killing section of the Combat chapter of the PHB. Normally, this rule allows an armed character to attack first with a +4 on attack and damage rolls when another character makes an unarmed attack against him or her.)
  • The priest can cast the detect evil spell three times per day in addition to all other spells.
  • At 3rd level, able to cast slow poison (as the 2nd-level priest spell) or knock (as the 1st-level wizard spell) once a day.
  • At 10th level, their Constitution score is increased to 18.
